María Alvarez Malvido

María is from Mexico City and currently lives in Oaxaca, México. She has worked with community media and technological autonomy processes through collaborations that she finds rooted in her commitment to diversity and her love for storytelling.

With a background in social anthropology, communications and journalism, she has collaborated with Indigenous Peoples in Mexico and Latin America in the design and facilitation of participatory methodologies for the development of community networks and other communication strategies to access, share and preserve local knowledge in self-determined ways. 

María holds an M.A. in Communication and Technology from the University of Alberta and a B.A in Social Anthropology from Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana - Iztapalapa, and has collaborated with diverse projects and organizations like Redes AC, Colmena, Rising Voices and DigitalNWT. 

She enjoys writing and co-writing and has published several journalistic articles about community media, linguistic and cultural diversity, and digital technology.
